What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into the skin at particular points on the body, to prevent or treat ill health or maintain good health. This is thought to stimulate the body’s ability to heal.
Currently in the UK there are two main styles, Traditional Chinese and Western Medical Acupuncture.
Many physicians have discovered independently that pressing, stimulating or injecting various superficial body points may help to relieve pain, particularly muscular or rheumatic-like pains.
How could Acupuncture help me?
It can be beneficial for a wide range of problems including asthma, back pain, depression, menstrual and menopause and many other disorders.
What will happen on my first visit?
A detailed history will be taken in order to identify the underlying pattern of disharmony and give you the most effective treatment.
The acupuncturist is likely to feel your pulses on both wrists, noting their quality, rhythm and strength to see how the energy is flowing. Your tongue may be examined which is a good guide to your physical health. Once enough information has been gathered to determine the likely causes of your problems, the acupuncturist can select the most appropriate treatment.
Treatment usually starts on a weekly basis, with fine sterile needles inserted into various points of the body. The acupuncturist may supplement the needle treatment with moxa, a smouldering herb which is used to warm acupuncture points to encourage the body's energy to flow smoothly. Other methods of stimulating acupuncture points include using lasers or electro-acupuncture. Massage, or tapping with a rounded probe, are techniques particularly suitable for small children or for people with a fear of needles.
What does it feel like?
Acupuncture needles bear little resemblance to needles used in injections and blood tests. Most people described sensation of the insertion of the needle as a tingle or dull ache.

What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy Essential Oils has been used and valued for centuries. Essential oils are concentrated oils extracted from plants and are used for their healing properties. Essential oils can be used in different ways, including massage, bathing and inhalation. Different oils are thought to act on the body in different ways, having a relaxing, energizing, calming or uplifting effect.
How could Aromatherapy help me?
Aromatherapy is used for a wide range of health problems such as anxiety, and stress related conditions. Many people find it useful in treating arthritic and rheumatoid pain, aching muscles, stiff joints, headaches and pre-menstrual tension. Aromatherapy can also stimulate the immune system, avoiding the "run-down" feeling that can so often lead to colds or 'flu. Some people also use aromatherapy just for its relaxation effects.
What to expect during an Aromatherapy Treatment
Each treatment begins with a brief consultation. Pure aromatherapy oils are then selected and blended into a base oil to be applied during the massage.
Treatments are individually designed to focus on the client’s specific needs. Any combination of back, neck, shoulders, head, arms, hands, feet, etc. can be considered. Shorter or longer massages give clients a choice of treatments.

What is McTimoney Chiropractor?
Chiropractic is a method of adjusting the bones of your body to maintain the correct alignment of your spine and to ensure that your body's nerve supply works efficiently. It seeks to eliminate the cause, not just treat symptoms. Chiropractic can relieve pain, increase mobility and provide a route to better health.
Misalignment of the vertebrae or bones can occur for many reasons, such as incorrect lifting, car or sporting accidents, childbirth, falls, stress and poor posture. These conditions will all worsen over time if not corrected.
How could a McTimoney Chiropractor help me?
McTimoney chiropractors use only their hands to make adjustments to the bones of your body. The key to the success of the adjustments is in the speed and accuracy with which they are performed.
The gentle nature of the McTimoney Chiropractic technique makes it especially suitable for people of all ages including young babies, pregnant women and the elderly. Because of the way chiropractors positively affect the functioning of the nervous system, the following conditions often benefit from treatment :
What happens when you see a Chiropractor
Your chiropractor will take a full case history regarding your general health background as well as details of your symptoms. This will help in assessing and analysing your particular problem. They will then thoroughly examine all the joints in your body, literally from head to toe, and undertake any further clinical assessment that might be necessary to determine that it is safe to treat you. McTimoney Chiropractors have a very finely tuned sense of touch, developed in their four years of training, which enables them to identify misalignments of the vertebrae and other bones. Upon finding a problem, your chiropractor will use one of a number of light, swift and dexterous techniques, characteristic of McTimoney chiropractic, to adjust each individual bone that requires attention.
If your chiropractor discovers or suspects a problem, which requires medical investigation or an x-ray, they will refer you to your GP. Wherever possible your McTimoney chiropractor will work in co-operation with your GP and a letter is normally sent to your doctor informing them of your treatment.
How many sessions will you need?
The number of sessions needed varies considerably depending on:
Most patients need between two and six sessions, but your chiropractor will give you a better idea of the probable treatment plan after they have examined you at the first session.

What is crystal healing?
Crystal Therapy is a complementary and holistic therapy that aims to treat "the whole", the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual parts of us and in so doing helps bring balance into everyday life.
The properties and structures within crystals are the same as those that make up our universe and so it makes sense that we can work with their energies to help our mind, body and spirit.
Crystal therapy is deeply relaxing and brings back balance and helps ease the stress and tension of the day. The therapy involves the laying of crystals on the energy points of the body (the chakras and / meridians) releasing blockages, aligning the body's energies and so promotes healing of the mind, body and spirit.
How could crystal healing help me?
Healing can promote ‘wellness’, help prevent physical illness and support the recovery of existing symptoms. It can also be very helpful in crisis situations and with ‘terminal’ illness. Healing often involves some form of change in a client’s overall way of being. It may be through the release of redundant patterns, a relief of stress and tensions or a deeper insight into the cause of a specific problem or symptom. It may also be through revitalisation, relaxation or establishing a greater amount of peace and harmony.
What to expect during a Crystal or Energy Healing Treatment
You may be asked to remove your jewellery and to either sit on a chair or lie on a therapist’s couch during the treatment, fully clothed (minus shoes!). The healer will help you to relax and, for crystal healing, may then place some crystals on or around your body. You may experience a slight tingling or nothing at all. Changes do still happen on subtle levels.
A crystal healing session usually lasts for 1 hour during which the recipient is fully clothed. All healers adhere to a strict code of conduct and confidentiality.

What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a gentle and safe complete system of medicine that heals people holistically.
Being a holistic medicine homeopathy looks at the patient as a whole. It takes into account the many symptoms an individual may have and then often one medicine is used that best covers their whole symptom picture.
The symptoms we experience are the body's way of expressing an imbalance; homeopathy helps you to regain that balance and become healthy - and stay healthy. In homeopathy we look at what caused the person to produce their symptoms initially. This could have been an accident or an emotional shock, having been under stress for some time or never having been well since a particular bout of illness.
How could Homeopathy help me?
Homeopathy therefore deals with the cause of the illness rather than the effect, in this way, by treating the cause the effect will disappear. It can help with a variety of conditions some of these are listed below:
Acute Conditions
Injuries
Chronic conditions
During Pregnancy

Babies
Babies usually respond quickly to homeopathic remedies and can be treated for any number of conditions that the new born experience.
Homeopathic medicines are extremely safe for use by everybody including pregnant women. They can also safely be taken by babies and children. They are diluted so there is virtually no discernible substance left. Homeopathic remedy are used to stimulate your own healing powers, not to overwhelm your body.
Children often respond very well to treatment and we have helped many children with behavioural disorders or chronic conditions such as eczema. It may however take more than one consultation before any improvement is felt.
What happens when you see a homeopath?
Your first homeopathic consultation will last approximately 1 ½ hours. This time is taken to listen to your emotional and physical symptoms therefore you will be asked about your illness, lifestyle, medical history of yourself and your family, stresses and your personality.
A profile of you will then be formed and the most suitable homeopathic medicine will be prescribed for you to take.
Follow up appointments usually last around 30 to 45 minutes.
